Tell us a little about yourself.
I grew up and lived in Illinois most of my life, with a few wonderful years break in Virginia. I attended the College of Du Page and spent most of my career working in the travel industry retiring from Carlson Wagonlit Travel in November 2014. I love to travel and have visited most of the US and a good portion of Europe. My favorite destination is Hawaii. I have been married to Steve for almost 36 years and have a son Steve married to Ashlee and daughter Robin married to Justin. Steve and Ashlee have blessed us with two grandsons, who have completely kidnapped my heart.
How and when did you start quilting/sewing?
I learned to sew from my mother and made cloth nursery tale dolls for my nieces and nephews when I was 12. After making my wedding dress I retired from sewing other than an occasional Halloween costume until about 10 years ago. A class at Barrington Sewing Center sparked my interest in quilting and I have enjoyed many pleasant hours in my studio. I would like to dedicate a few hours each day to sewing but haven’t fit that into my schedule yet. I am an avid gardener but have gotten behind the weeding regimen due to all of the rain this season.
What are you most and least favorite parts of quilting?
I love planning, cutting and piecing the quilt top. Quilting it is not my specialty.
Favorite fabrics/designers/color palette? Where do you get inspiration for your quilting projects?
My favorite fabrics are bright vibrant greens and blues, and I enjoy a variety of current designers including Riley Blake, Kaffe Fassett and Michael Miller. Inspiration comes from everywhere - nature, magazines, classes, quilt shops and the guild.
What quilt/s are you working on now?
I have a hexagon baby quilt on my design wall, all the fabric for a Michael Miller inspired gnome baby Christmas quilt, a modern Elliptical Drunkards Path, and a Rose thread painting in progress. I just received the Michael Miller fabric for the Glitz Fabric Challenge and have no ideas yet!
What is on your quilting "bucket list"?
Don’t really know other than make a quilt for Steve and Ashlee and perhaps one for our bed! I always give everything I make away!!!
Where do you sew?
I am lucky enough to have a sewing room, as you can see from the pictures it’s bursting at the seams.
Do you tend to follow patterns or make your own designs?
I usually follow a pattern, although occasionally go off track and do my own design.
What kind of machine do you use?
I have a Janome MC 6600, Jem, and Viking Rose. I also have a Grace Pro quilting frame that I haven't figured out how to use yet.
Are you a fabric or scrap hoarder? Do you finish a project before starting another or have multiple WIPs/UFOs?
Too many UFO’s and too much fabric!!!
Tell us something about yourself that other CLMQG members probably don't know.
Growing up in the 60’s and spending a semester in Europe I lived in a “commune” when we returned to the US, to the horror of my mother!
What is your most treasured/sentimental possession?
I am the keeper of the family photos/memories if there was a house fire I would go back for those after our pets were all safe.
