So clean out your sewing area and help CLMQG fund our summer picnic and December Holiday party this year - that's a Win/Win!!

Here are the details:

  • Fabric items may also be donated to the sale table, but please indicate the quantity of each cut with a tag and bag any scrap pieces (smaller than a FQ) together before donating.  Fabric pieces and scrap bag prices will be determined by weight.  6 oz = approximately one yard = $2
  • Drop off your donation items when you arrive at the meeting.  Doors will open at 12:30pm for drop off and shopping.
  • Several fabric sample swatch bundles donated by Kaufman Fabrics will be included at the price of $0.25 per bundle.
  • Prices have been pre-determined by the Executive Board with books likely priced at $1 each/6 for $5 and magazines at $0.25 each/6 for $1.  Patterns are priced at $1.
  • A portion of the remaining items from our July 2014 sale table will be included in the sale.
  • The Sale Table will open at 12:30pm for purchases prior to the 1:00pm meeting, and will also be open after the meeting.
  • CASH only for purchases.
  • All proceeds will be deposited directly to the CLMQG bank account to be used for future 2015 social activities such as the summer picnic and December Holiday Party.
  • Any items left at the end of the meeting will be donated to a charity deemed appropriate by the Executive Board.
So take some time this weekend to gather your no-longer-loved fabrics, books, patterns, notions, tools, and magazines and bring them to our Sunday, February 8 meeting!

January 24 Charity Sew In information

Our first 2015 charity sew in day will be held Saturday, January 24 from 9:00am to 5:00pm.  You may come for all or part of the day, but please limit your planned sewing projects to quilt donations for our current chosen charity - breast cancer treatment and surgery patients at Centegra Gavers Breast Center in McHenry County.

The location of our sew in:

St. Paul's United Church of Christ
485 West Woodstock Street
Crystal Lake, IL 60014

The church is located directly across the street from North Elementary School.  As you are facing the church from Woodstock Street there is a driveway on the right leading to the rear of the church.  Use this drive to enter the property, park behind the church, and enter the building from that parking area.  The building doors will not be opened for us until 9:00am, so please DO NOT ARRIVE EARLY.

After we have entered the building and set up, the doors will be locked.  So if you will be arriving later in the day you will need to alert someone already at the sew in to come to the doors and let you in the building when you arrive.  One of the Executive Board members will be present at the sew in at all times.

If you have not already signed up for this sew in, please email us directly at crystallakemqg (at) gmail (dot) com so that we know you are coming.

If you will be arriving later in the day than 9:00am please email us directly and provide your cell phone number so that we can give you a number to call when you arrive.

What you need to bring:
  • Supplies and materials to work on your charity quilt projects including sewing machine (if needed) and extension cords
  • Lunch and non-alcoholic beverages to get you through the day (there is a refrigerator on site that we may use)
  • Cushion for your sewing seat if needed.  The chairs we'll be using are not padded.
Thank you for all your efforts in making comfort quilts for the patients in treatment at Gavers.  We've touched quite a few lives already, and there are many more local women being diagnosed every week.

March 2015 Swap for CLMQG members

At our January 10 meeting Terri D (one of our Swap Coordinators) announced a new voluntary swap for CLMQG members.  Here are the details from Terri in case you missed the meeting.

Due:  March 8, 2015 meeting

Swap: MUG RUG - the object of this swap is to have fun exploring the decorative stitches on your sewing machine.  This is your chance to show off the fancy stitches on your sewing machine and use them in a small quilt project.

What you will make:
MUG RUG aka "small art quilt" which measures approximately 7" x 9".  These small quilts should be made with washable materials and the edges finished with a binding so they will hold up in the laundry.

  • Fabrics should be 100% cotton "quilt shop" quality.
  • Straight and zigzag stitches should be used only for piecing the small quilt.
  • At least 25% of your small quilt should have some negative space to showcase the decorative stitches/quilting.
Participation in this swap is voluntary; to participate just bring your small swap quilt to the March 8, 2015 meeting.

2015 UFO Challenge

This Saturday, January 10 we are kicking off our fun new member program at CLMQG - the 2015 UFO Challenge!

Most of us have at least a few (and some of us have waayyyy more than a few) unfinished sewing projects languishing in our closets. Well now is the time to dig them out, dust them off, and get ready to check them off your to-do lists!

Here are the details:

  • Beginning January 10 you may register as many UFO projects as you like at each monthly CLMQG meeting through September.
  • There is a cost of $2 per UFO registered.  All registration fees will be used to fund prizes for the program.

  • To register your UFO stop at the UFO Challenge desk, complete a project card, and pay $2.
  • The UFO Challenge coordinator will log your project on the master list and keep your project card on file.
  • When you finish (and finish means every last stitch is in place - the project is quilted and binding is complete) bring your project to the next monthly meeting, visit the UFO Challenge desk and inform the UFO Challenge coordinator of your finish so your project can be logged as "complete" on the master list. You must show the project to the group at the meeting Show and Tell.
  • Your project card will also be stamped with a completion date and then entered into the next quarterly prize drawing.
  • There are no minimum project sizes for this challenge, but please limit registrations to quilted projects - bags, totes, pillows, placemats, and quilts of all sizes are all acceptable projects.  Please use your best judgement when registering projects - a set of four unfinished placemats would be considered one UFO, not four.

  • Prize drawings will occur in March, June, and September with the final Grand Prize Drawing scheduled for October.  You do not need to be present at the drawing to win.
  • The Executive Board is busy searching far and wide for prizes.  Stay tuned for more details!
  • If you win a prize at one of the quarterly drawings, your project will be entered into the October Grand Prize drawing, but it will be ineligible to win any further quarterly prizes.

  • We're planning for a FUN DAY on January 10 and at every meeting in 2015, and we hope that you'll join us!

Now dig through those closets and project bins and find some UFOs to register!  You could win some fun prizes!  Questions?  Email us at crystallakemqg (at) gmail (dot) com, or ask us at the January 10 meeting.
