Block of the Month #6

Block of the Month #6

This is the "Anita's Arrowhead" block inspired by a tutorial published by Quiltmaker.com
Presented by Ann K

Instructions

Cut (2) 11" contrasting squares. (Recommend starching & ironing first)
Need (1) 3" post-it note

With right sides together, pair 2 contrasting 11" x 11" squares.
Using a short stitch length, start with a back stitch and begin sewing 3" from the top right edge as shown. (Rather than measuring and marking the 3" starting point, stick a 3" sticky note in the upper right corner.) Pivot 1/4" from the corner and sew to the bottom left edge as shown, ending with a back stitch.

Rotate 180 degrees and sew the last 2 sides in the same manner.

Cut the unit diagonally through the sewn corners as shown.

Stack the triangles as shown, carefully aligning all edges.

Measure 3" from the left edge and cut through all layers as shown.
Without disturbing the stack, measure 3" from the bottom edge and cut through all layers as shown.

OPEN ALL SEAMS and press the seams open.
Arrange the units as shown below.

Sew the units together to make the block.

Center and trim the block to 12 1/2" x 12 1/2"

** The original quilt block from the Quiltmaker.com pattern starts with (2) 8" squares and a 2" post-it, when measuring from the side to cut, measure 2" from the edge.   The block gets squared up to 9" x 9".
