June 30 CLMQG Social Outing Cancelled

We're sorry to report that our June 30 social outing has been cancelled.  Well, really just postponed, but at this time we don't yet have a rescheduled date to provide.

The summer is such a busy time for many of us, and we've just simply run short on time to properly plan and execute this outing.  We want to provide the best and most fun experience for our members, so it doesn't make sense to go forward with something that would be less than our best effort.

We will definitely reschedule - probably in the fall.  As soon as we've got a new date, it will be published here.

Thanks for understanding!

Check back here in the next couple of days for a fun announcement about something we're cooking up for later this year.  We haven't ever mentioned it at a meeting or here on the website, so it will really be "new" news!

In the meantime, let's all hope for the sunshine to return!

June 9, 2013 Meeting Minutes

I.     We had 28 people in attendance at our meeting on Sunday, June 9, 2013. Eleven new members joined, bringing our total membership to 36!

II.    President’s Report: To help offset administrative costs, the Modern Quilt Guild has a new membership requirement for local guilds to be affiliated with their larger guild. This involves a membership fee. Our Executive Board is looking into the details of this new requirement and how it will affect CLMQG. More details will be coming soon.

III.   Treasurer’s Report: We have $895 in our guild checking account.

IV.    Committee Update:

  • Laura Watts, Charity Chief, told the group about Project Night Night, a charity which gives bags to children who need to leave their home in a hurry (due to removal by Child Services, a home fire, etc). Each bag contains a homemade quilt, a stuffed animal, and a book. This charity works with local police departments to give the bags to children in Crystal Lake, Lake in the Hills, and Algonquin.  Laura’s husband’s Army unit will supply the bags, and Laura knows of some Brownie and Girl Scout troops that will collect stuffed animals and books, if we are interested in making quilts for the bags. The group voted to make this our ongoing charity project. More details will be coming to the blog soon.
  • We are still in need of committee chairs for most of our committees. Please email us at crystallakemqg (at) gmail (dot) com if you are interested in helping with one of these committees:
                   1.  Bee Keeper
                   2.  Workshop Wrangler

V.     Upcoming Meetings/Events:
