Let"s Get Together!

We're so excited to announce our first meeting coming up Sunday, February 10th, 2013! We will be meeting at the Home State Bank Commercial Banking Center at 611 S. Main Street, Crystal Lake, IL 60014 from 1-4 p.m. Quilters and Sewists - experienced and newbies - are welcome!

Here are a few topics/discussions we will cover in our first meeting..
We all love to talk about what we're working on, so it would be fun if everyone would please bring one recently finished and one work-in-progress for show 'n' tell.

And let's do a Fat Quarter swap! Bring 1 FQ to swap with a fellow member.

We will be posting a survey soon requesting your input on what you would like most from your Modern Quilt Guild: including projects, sew-ins, swaps and meeting times. You can either print this out and bring with you or we will have them at the meeting. This will be a great way for everyone to have a voice and share what interests them the most!  If you are unable to attend our first meeting, but still want to give us your "two-cents", feel free to respond to the upcoming survey post with your opinions and comments.

We hope everyone can make it and please spread the word. The Crystal Lake Modern Quilt Guild will be a fun place to socialize and create! We can't wait to meet everyone!

  2. Do we need to do anything special if we're not a member but would like to be?

    1. Hi Kelly! No you don't need to bring anything other than the items mentioned above: A recently finished project and a work-in-progress for a "show and tell" and a quilt-shop quality fat quarter if you want to participate in that exchange. A survey for people interested in membership will be published on this blog later in the week, so be on the lookout for that. It's our first meeting, so technically none of us are members :) Hope to see you there!

  3. I'm a newbie to quilting and sewing and I'd love to come to learn from you ladies. I do have a question, what is a fat quarter? Also, anything I need to have/bring for the first meeting?

    1. Hi Julie! Welcome to the wonderful world of quilting! A fat quarter is a cut of fabric approximately 18" x 22" (called "fat" because instead of a skinny regular quarter yard 9" x 44", it's a half-yard cut into two pieces along the lengthwise grain. You can find a huge selection of beautiful pre-cut fat quarters at any local quilt shop. We are planning to add a side-bar here on the blog later this week listing quilt shops in our area, so you'll be able to find one close to your home :)

If you've got a recently finished sewing/quilting project you'd like to bring and show, please do. Or if you've got something in progress, bring that to share.

Looking forward to seeing you on February 10!

  4. Can I sign up? I would LOVE to be part of this guild. I have been quilting/sewing for only about 9 months but so far am loving the friendships, meeting new people, and exploring new ideas.

Please let me know what I need to do to sign up!

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Kristin! So glad you are excited to join :)
We don't have an offiial sign-up/enrollment process in place yet, but if you are able to make the February 10 meeting, we'd love to see you then. There will be an interest survey posted here very soon for you to indicate what type of guild activities you are interested in.

Thanks so much for your interest! Keep checking back here for news and updates :)

If you are a Facebook user, please "Like" our page there - that's a good way for us to keep track of everyone until we've got a sign-up process in place.
