An expert's take on Modern Quilting

We just learned about a great opportunity to hear from one of modern quilting's biggest names - Jacquie Gering! Her work has been widely published in both national and international publications. She is the author of the popular blog, Tallgrass Prairie Studio, one of the founding members of the Kansas City Modern Quilt Guild, and a current member of the Chicago Modern Quilt Guild. So I'd say she is a modern quilting expert!

Jacquie recently spoke with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims on The Quilt Show, a web-based television show that offers online classes, interviews, demonstrations and more. Most of the segments on this site require a membership fee to access, but until February 11, 2013, you can watch the episode featuring Jacquie Gering for free!

Just click here to view the free episode. I know you'll be inspired!

If you decide to become a member of The Quilt Show before February 11, you can receive a 20% discount on the membership fee by entering this coupon code when completing your purchase: 229541507553.

Let us know what you think of the program!

Give us your "two-cents"!

Could you give us a few moments of your time to complete our survey?

We've formulated a short, 10 question interest survey to help us create and plan a great Crystal Lake Modern Quilt Guild. It's all online - there are no papers to print or files to download - all you need to do is click on the link below and answer away:

Take me to the CLMQG Interest Survey

We won't be distributing any paper copies of the survey at our meetings as we had originally planned. Since then we've discovered "Survey Monkey" online, where we can collect and organize all of your responses more efficiently, and then report them back to you more effectively!

Thank you for your time and your enthusiasm about our new quilt guild! Only 12 more days until our first meeting!!

Visit Your Local Quilt Shop Day

Tomorrow, January 24, is a big day for your local quilt shops.

It's Visit Your Local Quilt Shop Day - a worldwide event to raise awareness for the importance of these businesses in our local economies and in the creative pursuits of quilters, sewists, fabric enthusiasts, and crafters everywhere!

The website dedicated to promoting this event (linked just above so you can click right over to it) is sponsoring a photo contest with some great prizes to help promote the event.

Neighborhood quilt shops are a vital part of our ability to create and share in this wonderful art form, and they help connect us with a larger community of fellow quilters!

As a resource for you, we've added a list of web links to several outstanding shops on the blog's right sidebar. Support your friendly local quilt shops often :)

Let"s Get Together!

We're so excited to announce our first meeting coming up Sunday, February 10th, 2013! We will be meeting at the Home State Bank Commercial Banking Center at 611 S. Main Street, Crystal Lake, IL 60014 from 1-4 p.m. Quilters and Sewists - experienced and newbies - are welcome!

Here are a few topics/discussions we will cover in our first meeting..
We all love to talk about what we're working on, so it would be fun if everyone would please bring one recently finished and one work-in-progress for show 'n' tell.

And let's do a Fat Quarter swap! Bring 1 FQ to swap with a fellow member.

We will be posting a survey soon requesting your input on what you would like most from your Modern Quilt Guild: including projects, sew-ins, swaps and meeting times. You can either print this out and bring with you or we will have them at the meeting. This will be a great way for everyone to have a voice and share what interests them the most!  If you are unable to attend our first meeting, but still want to give us your "two-cents", feel free to respond to the upcoming survey post with your opinions and comments.

We hope everyone can make it and please spread the word. The Crystal Lake Modern Quilt Guild will be a fun place to socialize and create! We can't wait to meet everyone!
